Geography at Key Stage 3

Geography is a dynamic and exciting subject, which students find both stimulating and interesting. During Key Stage 3 the pupils will encounter different societies and cultures that they would not in everyday life. This helps them to realize how nations rely on each other. It can inspire them to think about their own place in the world, their values, and their rights and responsibilities to other people and the environment.

All pupils will have the opportunity to:

 Investigate a wide range of people, places and environments from around the world, including China and Ghana.

 Study geographical patterns and processes and the landforms we get from them, such as in coasts, rivers and glaciation.

 Carry out geographical enquiry, including identifying geographical questions and developing their own opinions, especially in development.

 Carry out geographical investigations inside and outside the classroom.

 Use a range of different resources, including maps, atlases, satellite images, aerial photographs, text and images.

Geography will aim to:

 Stimulate pupil’s interest in their surroundings and in the variety of human and physical conditions on the earth’s surface.

 Foster pupils sense of wonder at the beauty of the world around them.

 Help pupils to develop an informed concern about the quality of the environment and the future of the human habitat and thereby enhance pupil’s sense of responsibility for the care of the earth and its people.
